An Italian cream soda is a delicious treat that’s unbelievably easy to make at home. With the plethora of sugar free flavored syrups on the market you can mix and create flavors to suit your every craving! Keep it simple with French vanilla or go crazy mixing flavors like my personal favorite – caramel s’mores.
For this recipe you’ll need: club soda, sugar free syrup in choice of flavors (I’ll have some combination suggestions for you later on in this post), heavy cream, sugar free sweetener if desired, and ice.

A lifetime ago I owned a tea room. It seemed like a great idea at the time, although in retrospect I’m not so sure I’d do it again. Bad timing (it was the end of the tearoom craze), bad location (15 miles south would have made ALL the difference), and lack of experience meant that the tea room saga was over in literally just a few months… six to be exact.
I was devastated at what I saw as my personal failure at business. What I didn’t know was that the experience would lead me into my current career as a food writer/cookbook author – something I really enjoy and has been relatively successful. So, the moral of the story is that sometimes what you consider to be your biggest failures are the things that boost you into your biggest successes.

Anyway, one of the most popular things on the menu were the Italian Sodas and the Italian Cream Sodas – or as we called them, Cremosas. We kept a huge stock of every flavored syrup imaginable and created some of the most delicious combinations you can imagine. Chocolate and rose was my favorite but rose doesn’t come in a sugar free form that I’ve found so I’ve switched to other flavor combination that I love.
The plain Italian sodas are good, don’t get me wrong, but the addition of a touch of cream takes it right over the top and adds some of that good, stick to your ribs fat that makes the low-carb high-fat diet so appealing. If you allow yourself an occasional cocktail you can add a shot of vodka or flavored vodka as well.

Here are some sugar free combinations that I like –
- Strawberry Watermelon
- Hazelnut Coffee
- Strawberry Vanilla Bean
- Brown Sugar Cinnamon Peach
- Lime Raspberry
The list is almost endless.

I use Torani sugar free syrups. They have a pretty good selection of sugar free and I like that you can buy a collection of them all at once. There’s a collection of summer flavors on Amazon and they have other collections and also single bottles.
