Does alcohol fit with low carb?
Yes and no. The great thing about an alcoholic drink is that most hard liquors have a 0 carb count. The problem is that the alcohol is seen by your body as something it should process and burn first, ahead of any food in your stomach. As a result, it may stall your weight loss efforts. So being on a low carb diet, I limit myself to one (two at the absolute max) and only on weekends. This has helped me keep on the keto track.
What can you mix with vodka without calories?
Most cocktail recipes aren’t really keto friendly. The reason is that most every mixed drink has added sugar in the form of the mixes that are added. Things like simple syrup, which is just water and sugar. Or another sweetener like cranberry juice, or orange juice (like in a Screwdriver).
To support our keto diet, I like to mix things that have no sugar into my mixed drink recipes. Things like lemon juice, lime juice, club soda, sparkling water, soda water, and keto tonic water (the regular version has a ton of sugar). I then add a sugar free sweetener like Torani sugar free syrups or sugar free water enhancers.
Which alcoholic drinks are low carb?
Tropical cocktails don’t really seem appropriate for New Year’s Eve or winter parties but I get tired of the classics. For the heat of summer, they are perfect but sometimes I want something that is more icy cold during summer. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cozy keto Old Fashioned but it always seemed more like a book and quilt with a crackling fire kind of drink.
I’ve been partial to a vodka cocktail since I had my first Screwdriver (which is orange juice and vodka in case you haven’t had the pleasure). I love the flavor of ginger ale and ginger beer, the spicier the better! I make a lot of variations on them and this one is a lot of fun! It’s sweet but not too sweet and it has a nice sparkle to it.
The sugar free peppermint syrup gives you that icy after taste the same way a mint does. You could garnish this with fresh mint leaves or a slice of lime or both. Best of all, according to Belvedere’s nutrition information webpage, vodka has a 0 net carb count. Belvedere vodka is from Poland and is my favorite top shelf, on the rocks vodka drink with a little lemon juice. But for everyday use, I like Smirnoff which is owned by a British company and the United States bottles are made right here in the good old US of A in Plainfield, Illinois. I love a flavored vodka for a keto alcohol drink on the rocks. For this recipe, I used Smirnoffs pineapple vodka. Try some on the rocks with a touch of lime juice or lemon juice to wake up the senses. There’s just something about that citrus flavor and vodka that go so well together in keto recipes like this one.
Tips for Making This Low Carb Vodka Cocktail
This is a super easy keto cocktail but using these tips will ensure that the low carb Arctic Mule is at its best when you serve it.
- Keep the vodka in the freezer to make it even icier. It won’t freeze solid like water because it’s vodka.
- Most Mule cocktails are served in copper mugs. I don’t care for the feel of them so I use glass.
- The best Moscow Mules are made with the spiciest ginger beer available. You’ll need to try a few to see which are available at your store and which one you like best.
- You can make a punch with this low carb vodka cocktail recipe. Just add the sugar free ginger beer in right before serving.

I absolutely love Torani sugar free syrups. You’ve probably seen these bottles at your local coffee shop. They add an amazing amount of flavor but without the sugar and carbs. Torani Sugar Free Peppermint Syrup gives this low carb vodka cocktail the perfect fresh blast of cool after-taste without the carbs!
