How do you make Southern Belles low carb?
A summer bourbon cocktail is just the thing to help me get back on track. I’ve been focusing on low carb comfort food and adapting my family recipes that make me feel nurtured. A whiskey, bourbon, or vodka cocktail on occasion keeps me relaxed and helps me to work on things like a meal plan.
Most Southern Belle recipes have both bourbon and whiskey in them. The other thing I see is Grenadine syrup. Grenadine syrup is made from pomegranate juice and sugar. It is definitely not something for a low carb diet. Then many add fruit juice like pineapple or orange. Both are full of sugar and thus carbs. Neither fit in my low carb lifestyle.
That’s where the sugar free water enhancers came in. The little bottles they come in are so cute and last a long time as you don’t use that much per cocktail.
Remember that even though bourbon is 0 carb, the alcohol will keep you from burning fat for a time. Cocktails tend to be something I have on the weekends because of that. This helps keep me in ketosis.
