I prefer to make my own shredded cheese from a block of cheese. The reason is that while, the shredded cheese you find at the supermarket is way easier to use, it has an additive to keep it from clumping into a blob in the bag. It’s usually cellulose. Which is just a fancy word for wood fiber I think. It’s that and it just doesn’t taste the as rich as freshly grated cheese. Granted, it takes a lot more work to grate cheese than to pull out a handful from a bag. My cheese grater of choice is my box grater. It’s super sturdy which is important so I don’t slice my fingers. It’s made by Cuisinart and has a rubber bottom so it doesn’t slide around. The handle is comfortable and makes it easier to control. Best of all, it’s stainless steel so it is easy to clean and doesn’t rust easily.
When you want to grate your own cheese, this Cuisinart box grater will make your life much easier.
