This low carb hurricane cocktail has all of the fruity flavor of the original, plus all the kick, but without the carbs. Two kinds of rum are combined with a little lime juice and some 0-carb water enhancer to make this classic punch.
For this recipe you’ll need: white rum, dark rum, lime juice, fruit punch water enhancer, mango passionfruit water enhancer, aromatic bitters, and sugar free sweetener

If you are trying to lose weight on low carb cocktails can really screw you up. Be sure to take it easy and keep it to maybe one a week until you know if it’s going to slow you down. Just a tip, I’ve screwed up weeks of low carb perfection at one weekend party.
According to ABC News the Hurricane was created during Prohibition in New Orleans at O’Brien’s Pub. It was developed to help the owner get rid of cheap rum. He created the cocktail with plenty of fruit juice to mask the cheap booze and gave the drink away to sailors who were in town. That caused the sailors to tell everyone about the pub so it was a win-win situation for O’Brien’s.
The amount of fruit flavor in this drink makes the rum go down easy – it tastes a bit like an adult version of Hawaiian Punch. Don’t let that fool you though. It will definitely get you way too happy if you’re not careful. The few carbs in this come from the lime juice. Consider though, that a regular Hurricane has about 24 carbs for the same amount so it’s a win.

I’ve been working like crazy trying to get things scheduled. My husband and I are leaving for 10 days in France this week. I am so excited I can’t stand it! I promise you I am not going to restrict my diet at all for that 10 days. This means two things. (1) Am I going to totally enjoy the trip and (2), When I get back I will be creating a ton of low-carb recipes because I will probably need to lose a ton of weight. I guess the third thing is that the recipes should be pretty amazing because I’ll be missing all of that great French food!
You may want to add a little more water to the drink. Don’t be afraid to adjust to your own tastes. The one thing about the water enhancers is that too much of them can give you a weird aftertaste. Add water a little at a time until it’s just how you like. Club soda instead of water gives it a little sparkle that’s nice, too.

Here’s the low carb hurricane recipe. I think you’ll like it as much as I do.
